The new Labour Government are proposing some major changes to national planning policies as part of their pledge to build 1.85 million new homes over the next 5 years. A consultation is now open into their proposed changes, which include new mandatory housing targets for areas such as North East Derbyshire, new policies around Green Belt development and removing the urban uplift which previously placed an emphasis on big cities delivering more houses than more rural areas like NED.
We all agree we need new homes, but it is important these are in the right places with the right infrastructure to match. We think local areas and residents should also get a strong say on what's right and where in their areas.
