Conservative led Dronfield Town Council discussed central government's proposed changes to the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) as part of a wider consultation. The NPPF sets out planning policies for England and how these are expected to be applied. Cllr Mark Foster proposed sending opposition explaining, "The proposed changes reverse many policies previously applied to protect our greenbelt including removing the prioritisation of building on brownfield sites, the introduction of delivering housing needs across authority boundaries (this specifically affects our town as we neighbour Sheffield), the release of greenbelt land for traveller sites, removal of outcomes supporting beauty and much more. Greenbelt surrounds our town and is part of what makes it a wonderful place to live. This new labour led NPPF is determined to concrete over greenbelt like ours and change our communities forever.”
The consultation response was voted through by a recorded majority. Consultation period ended 24th September.
