Good transport links are essential to our daily lives. Whether that's young people attending further education provision, workers travelling to key employment sites like Markham Vale, or the elderly and vulnerable accessing key public services such as healthcare.
Across the Bolsover constituency residents are impacted by poor infrastructure. Residents spend hours of their lives sitting idling in queues around junctions 28 and 29 of the M1. Height restrictions at Darfoulds Bridge causes HGV traffic to cut through Whitwell to access Worksop via the A60. Barlborough is congested at peak hours due to Treble Bob Roundabout being over capacity And the A61 is in a permanent state of being one long traffic jam.
For people living in the East of the constituency they are fortunate to have access to the Robin Hood Line, which allows to travel to Worksop, Mansfield, and Nottingham. But we need to restore more rail links across our communities.
Investing in our roads, rail, and buses are the key to unlocking our great potential and truly levelling-up our area.
What am I doing about it?
I have regular meetings with Network Rail and Derbyshire County Council to help fast track the Darfoulds Bridge project. We are waiting on the results of a report, before designs can be finalised and I will then campaign to secure the funding.
M1 junction 28 & 29 in their current state are not fit for purpose. I am working with Derbyshire County Council and National Highways to improve both junctions, as well as campaigning to improving capacity around Barlborough's main access route from the M1.
Restoring lost rail connections is key to improving connectivity across our region. That's why I'm campaigning to extend the Robin Hood line, reopen the Maid Marion line, and work with Lee Rowley MP to build a rail station at Clay Cross.
