Dronfield Sports Centre is on the way to becoming one of the first existing facilities in the UK to reduce its emissions by 100%, following receipt a Government decarbonisation grant worth £1.33million.
The over £1.5million project (topped up by North East Derbyshire District Council funds) is nearing completion and has seen:
- 239 solar panels installed on the roof to offset 25% of the centre’s energy usage (already from renewable sources)
- Old gas-powered boilers replaced with air source heat pumps
- Cavity wall insulation to reduce heat loss
- LED lighting fitted throughout
Taken together, these works will massively reduce not just the carbon footprint of the centre, but also the running costs. At a time when 2000 swimming pools across the country are predicted to close, here in North East Derbyshire we’re bucking the trend by investing in all of our centres to help make them more sustainable for the long term to be enjoyed for many generations to come.
But this can only happen when we have a Conservative Government and Conservative Council working together to get things done for the people of North East Derbyshire!
