Following great efforts of the Conservative group prior to the new administration at Killamarsh Parish Council, on Friday 26th May 2024, the newly developed playground at Norwood Park, Killamarsh was officially handed over to the Parish Council by Kompan.
Conservative Councillors were keen to address the balance of decent play areas being evenly distributed around the village and were determined to replace the redundant park with new facilities for families in this area. Previously, residents had to walk quite a distance and cross a very busy road to access the nearest play area at Belk Lane.
The playground has brand new pieces of fun, colourful play equipment aimed at children up to 11 years old along with the area being fully resurfaced with a brightly coloured enclosure fence. It is hoped that this new play area will encourage social interaction between children and create a more connected community.
The project cost just over £50,000 and the Parish Council received a grant of £25,000 towards it from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund scheme administrated by North East Derbyshire District Council, another initiative driven by the previous Conservative District Council administration through national levelling up funds.
Cllr Wendy Tinley, Chair of the Environment & Climate Change Committee, said “All children should have a safe play area near to where they live, and it's pleasure to see children enjoying Norwood Play Area once more following the terrible state the previous park had fallen into, as it had become quite redundant and required some much needed TLC.”
