Your local Conservative Councillors have been working hard to improve all of our town centres across North East Derbyshire. In Eckington, we’ve closed off the precinct to traffic, supported the market and purchased planters to help make the area more attractive.
In consultation with hundreds of local residents, we’ve developed a comprehensive vision and masterplan document for how we want to regenerate our town centre for the long term. The proposals include:
- plans to redevelop the Northgate and Southgate House areas to create a more distinct town centre,
- improvements to connectivity and public realm,
- the creation of more opportunities for local businesses
- and more parking provision.
In addition, we’re already working towards creating a “destination park” at Lansbury Road, with an activity hub with café, 3G pitch and top-of-the-range play area.
Unlike in previous years, where Eckington has missed out on regeneration opportunities, having a masterplan document means we have a shovel ready scheme that we can keep lobbying and bidding for Government funding for. And we’re absolutely committed to keep banging the drum, so we get our chance to transform our town and well and truly Elevate Eckington!
