Local Councillors and Lee Rowley MP have been pushing for improvements to bus services in our area and have met with Hulleys to try to progress solutions.
Along with Clir Martin Thacker, Lee Rowley MP recently met with Hulleys to discuss local bus services.
Over recent months, a number of residents have been in touch with concerns regarding the service in villages such as Holymoorside, Wadshelf and Old Brampton.
Cllr Martin Thacker said, "Thank you to the residents who've contacted us on this important issue. I know how vital bus services are to many residents to allow them to go to appointments, work or shopping, and so we were keen to meet with Hulleys to highlight these concerns and try to find possible solutions to the issues."
"It was a constructive meeting and I am grateful to Alf from Hulleys for his willingness to engage, listen and see what can be done about it. The company committed to looking at the possibilities of how to address some of the issues regarding frequency and reliability - he hopes to come back to us with proposals soon."
Lee Rowley MP commented, "Buses have always been a challenging area of policy. Pre -covid, along with many local residents and councillors, we spent many hours trying to convince local bus companies to add new services or retain existing ones in an environment where usage was slowly declining. Then covid hit and, at a stroke, bus use massively dropped even further. For the past two years, taxpayer subsidy has largely sustained the network - something that can't go on forever. The reality is that the bus network is changing but we will continue to do what we can to try to improve things, and to highlight problems."
"Thank you again to all the residents who got in touch on this matter - we will hopefully report back more once Hulleys have got back to us. Please get in touch if you'd like to be kept updated."
