Since 2019 we’ve been working hard to fix the planning mess we inherited from Labour.
After more than a decade without one, we’ve got a new planning framework (Local Plan) in place to help stop the cycle of unplanned and speculative developments that local residents didn’t want. The decade without a plan under Labour saw 1000 extra homes built that weren’t planned - since we got a new plan in place, we’ve been able to prevent the 300 new houses applied for on Coupe Lane, 400 houses at Ash Crescent, as well as proposed further new homes in Tupton and Wingerworth.
The new Local Plan also means we can better plan infrastructure like roads, schools and health services for any new homes.
We’ve also:
- invested £200k in strengthening our planning department to provide in-house knowledge to effectively consider applications
- more than doubled our planning enforcement team so we can take more action on developers not complying with conditions or unauthorised developments
- recruited new heritage and tree specialists so we can protect our historic and natural environment
Your Conservative Councillors, working together, have delivered the Local Plan and taken back control of where housing developments can be built in North East Derbyshire.
